Project Two (Individual)

Sustainable City Ideation

The future of our cities will ultimately depend on the way we choose to shape our cities today. Their fate will be about how we as citizens live our lives, show respect towards all life on Earth and contribute to solutions that create a better world. They include a host of solutions from engaging in urban experiments and asking local authorities to enhance sustainability action to urban gardening and switching to bicycles. Each of those choices matters and together they make a large impact if each of us embraces responsibility for the cities we inhabit.

In this assignment, student will be conversant and expected to illustrate and transform concepts and ideas of the future
sustainable city, the word sustainability has come into such common usage that it sometimes seems ubiquitous.

Sustainable City Study

As a prerequisite for the sustainable city ideation project, we had to carry out case studies on two cities and research on both of their sustainable index in groups of four. Subsequently, constructive comparison are carried out to highlight things that can be adapted and learned from the far more superior one in terms of red, blue, green, and grey infrastructure.
The cities my team and I selected were Karachi and Malmo due similarities in their geography and density with drastically different quality of living.

Sustainable City Ideation

My future prediction was that in 2050, climate change and rising tensions had caused a nuclear war to ravage the planet, leaving behind a trail of destroyed cities, dysfunctional ecosystems and radioactive environments, as it threw the earths balance into haywire. The unpredictable climate, dangerous radiation and lack of resources forced what was left of humanity to descend back to our prehistoric nomadic ways, scavenging what was was left of a broken planet to try and repair the damage. Wandering amongst the wastelands, the city relies completely on recycling and repurposing waste from itself and the environment to sustain the needs of its residents.
