Project Brief

Visitor Interpretative Center

The Visitor Interpretive Centre serves two purposes, which are: To provide a physical point of reference with visual significance that keeps alive the culture/history/memory of the site. Secondly, to provide accommodation to house and display relevant material and interpretive material for public access and information. Solutions relying heavily on landscape are encouraged. Visitors should be inspired and informed in ways that somehow express the spirit of the place (Genius Loci).
Total floor area: 450sqm (covered internal spaces), 2 storeys

Finding Joy in The Little Things

The visitor interpretive center is designed with the intention to capture and revoke the joy the leprosy patients found within the Valley of Hope, Sungai Buloh. Most of them were brought here after being shunned by society due to leprosy being a taboo subject back in the past. They came here to seek acceptance and were welcomed into this family of people who were all the same as they were. It was here where they found friends, family, lovers, and joy in the life they were living.

Happy Ending

Through the journey of the center, visitors will be able to experience the memories of the lepreosy patients for generations to come and hopefully continue the undying spirit of finding the light in the dark that kept the leprosy patients up during their darkest days.
